The Élysées and Lambris ceramic wall covering collections by Devon&Devon
15/12/2011 - With Élysées and Lambris, Devon&Devon presents two collections of large format ceramic tiles in white clay, produced with the traditional double-firing technique. Unique, elegant collections reflecting a deep-rooted aesthetic sensitivity, re-interpreted according to cutting-edge, contemporary trends to rediscover the spontaneous, timeless beauty of a harmonious, sophisticated environment.
ÉLYSÉES BOISERIE WALL COVERING COLLECTION
Extraordinary elegance is the main keynote of the Élysées ceramic project. The fascinating contrast between the tactile physicality of the ceramic material, the delicate floral motif, the neutral colours and the elegantly-sculpted bas-relief pattern make Élysées an innovative product able to imbue environments with a sophisticated elegance. Élysées proposes a colour palette comprising four elegant shades, dark grey, grey beige, warm grey and white, and is complete with twelve matching elements including plinths, frames and special accessories.

TECHNICAL CHARACTERISTICS
All the characteristics of the ceramic materials used to produce Élysées Boiserie and Lambris comply with the specifications of ISO-EN 10545 and EN14411 which refers only to ceramic tiles. The double-firing is obtained from quarries of kaolin-based clays or chamotte which are ground dry, then mixed and then wet and compressed using a hydraulic press.
PRODUCTION PHASES
The raw body, pressed and dried, is double-fired in roller kilns at 1120° to eliminate impurities in the clay and endow this with good mechanical strength. The product is then glazed with mill-ground glazes mixed with coloured pigments and fired a second time at 1090°, melting the glaze and perfecting adhesion. This endows the product with a flexural strength of 15 N/mm2 according to the UNI ENI ISO 10545/4 standard and a water absorption higher than 10% according to the UNI EN 14411 standard.
LAYING
Double-fired tiles can be laid using either tile adhesives or grout. They should never be wet before laying when using acrylic or vinyl resin based adhesives or two-component organic solvent based adhesives. When laying large-size tiles, it is advisable to use a two-layer spreading method and, for very large surfaces, incorporate suitable expansion joints to be placed roughly 4-5 linear metres apart.
CLEANING ADVICE
When cleaning the tiles, do not rub the surface with abrasive products such as scouring pads or hard brushes which could leave permanent marks. Although the type of glazes used guarantees a certain degree of protection, use of acid or highly aggressive detergents should be avoided.
ADVANTAGES
This type of wall covering provides very little or no firing shrinkage, thus guaranteeing a constant size and easy laying.
