Atelier Zündel Cristea is an architecture studio created in 2001 by Grégoire Zündel and Irina Cristea, both graduates from the ENSA in Strasbourg. AZC actually employs 18 people - 16 of which are qualified architects – who are organized in different teams dealing with architectural design and technical conception. The teams, led by the project managers, combine conceptual and analytical rigor with well-tried skills in the survey and monitoring of important construction sites. Our activity of conception and completion is based on a regular innovation of space practices that take into account the constraints of factors such as site, program and cost. Our studio is in the front line when it comes to following-up of the projects under construction. In direct touch with the building’s completion, we are aware of the importance of all our decisions. From the very beginning, our motivation for the architect’s craft comes from our confidence in the humanity’s infinite promise and our concern with problems arising from excessive “development” such as the overcrowding of cities, the pollution of soil due to agriculture, the depletion of resources and construction materials. However, we are convinced that architecture and construction are an industrial sector that has a big potential for change: all our current projects, regardless of their individual scale, are engaged in problems we consider essential, linked to energy, climate and economic crisis.
