Architectural Lighting Designer Paola Urbano is owner of the UrbanoLighting, she has always worked on the linguistic properties expressed by the lighting phenomena, both in her projects and educational activities. She has an architectural background and started the specialisation in lighting design in 1988 with an experimental dissertation on “Lighting criteria for paintings in art galleries” at the Polytechnic of Turin, Faculty of Architecture. Afterwards, she attended a Ph.D at the Photometry Department of the National Electrotechnical Institute “G. Ferraris” of Turin, national branch of C.I.E. (Commission Internationale de l’Eclairage), where she had the opportunity to study topics such as lighting, conservation and perception of works of art. The first most meaningful works are related to historic and artistic environments, often characterized by conservation issues. Her office is based in Turin, Italy, and her projects concern both interiors as well as exterior spaces. The product design and development of lighting equipment to sector companies, completes her professional activity. Her projects are regularly published in books and magazines and frequently participate as a lecturer to meetings and conferences concerning lighting design issues. Since 1993, she has been teaching of lighting design at the Istituto Europeo di Design IED in Turin, where she headed the Architecture Department from 1996 to 2001 and since 2003 to 2010 she has been a lecturer of “Light Design” at the Bilgi University in Istanbul.
