Steffen Kehrle studied industrial design at the University of Applied Arts Vienna with Paolo Piva, Borek Šípek, Ross Lovegrove and Hartmut Esslinger. Meanwhile he passed internships at BMW (Munich), Busse Design (Ulm), Starczewski Design (Ulm) and Frédéric Dedelley (Zürich). From 2007 to 2009 he worked for Stefan Diez (Munich), jointly responsible for many product developments. Since 2009 he runs „Atelier Steffen Kehrle“ with an emphasis on product-, display- and interior-design. Steffen Kehrle’s work is charactized by a distinctive curiosity towards our interaction with things. His focus also lies on emotions which objects evoke and the context-sensitive orchestration of objects in unusual or everyday settings. For each one of his objects he searches for an independent approach, which allows him to invent characteristic forms with the most elementary means, to invent a new implicitness through improvisation or to reflect our relationship to objects through humour. He plays with duplication and mirroring, with historical role models, mixing the traditional and the prospective. He discovers new typologies for things around us and discloses a new perspective on the ordinary and familiar.
